Biography

Oliver Dorfer was born in 1963 in Linz, where he resides to this day. He is an Autodidact, who started working in the late 80s. His works consist of drawings, painting, sculpture and printmaking techniques such as lithography and carborundum printing. In 1989, he received the Talent Promotion Prize of the Province of Upper Austria, followed by the 3rd prize at the Römerquelle Art Competition in 1990, the City of Linz Promotion Prize for Fine Arts in 1991, the Bauholding Promotion Prize for Fine Arts (1st prize) in 1995, and the Prize of the City of Vienna at the 26th Austrian Graphic Arts Competition 1999. Since 1990, he has been a member of the artists' association MAERZ.

In his archaic-looking early works, Dorfer used pigments and shellac on plaster and developed that recall frescos. Later he developed a pictorial system between fiction and reality with stereotypes and visual codes from design, comics, photography and film.
