Clifton Childree
Biography
Clifton Childree's aesthetic reproduces silent film while being a tinkering art that transforms rotting wood, decaying furniture and decaying textiles into magical settings. His multimedia spatial installations are adventurous total works of art that transform into a humorous theatre of the grotesque and unbounded eccentricity.
His entry into the arts was as a film producer and filmmaker. In this capacity, he particularly enjoyed building sets, which is why he was especially tired of destroying the backdrops he had built for his shoots afterwards. So he turned away from his original intention - the film as the final product - and began to show the films in their sets. "It also helped transport the viewers into another world where they could better experience and participate in the film," the artist explains in the catalogue.
Childree did not go to art school. He did start a course at a film school, but quickly left. Instead, he used the money to make a film.
Clifton Childree, born in 1971 in Birmingham/Alabama, lives and works in Miami.
