Julia Avramidis
Biography
Her artistic style can be classified as Lyrical Abstraction. Lyrical Abstraction is an art movement of the 20th century and originated in France after 1945. Its focus is colour scheme and quick, spontaneous gestures. Venerated representatives are Hans Hartung, Georges Mathieu and Wols. In contrast to geometric abstraction is lyrical abstraction entirely rooted in the act of personal expression.
Julia Avramidis does not make sketches prior to working. The line is drawn freely, and each following line is a reaction and continuation of the preceding one. One repeated pattern of her work is the continuation of the line of one artwork in another, thus creating a work series. Although the artworks stand by themselves, they are nevertheless connected. Avramidis is known to work with varying materials, such as felt markers, oil colours mixed with turpentine oil, chalk pastel, linseed oil varnish and aerosol.
